Causes of White Hair at a Young Age
TIMESSINGAPORE, JAKARTA – White hair usually happens to most people at their 30s. However, white hair can happen at 20s. What are the causes of premature white hair? Here are some factors of premature white hair.
Stress can reduce the production of melanin, which is the natural hair pigment. Melanin is produced by melanocytes. In other words, the white hair is caused by the lack of melanin.
Usually, this condition is only temporary. As soon as the factor of the stress is gone, the melanin production will be back to normal and the black hair can grow.
Malnutrition is also one of the causes of premature white hair as it could affect the hair health.
3. Genetic factor
Premature white hair is hereditary. If the parents tend to have premature white hair, their children can inherit it from them.
4. Health problems
In some cases, premature white hair could be the signs of health problems, such as vitiligo, the loss of skin color, pernicious anemia, a decrease in red blood cells when the body can't absorb enough vitamin B12, and thyroid disease. (*)
