TIMESSINGAPORE, JAKARTA – High cholesterol level could lead to any fatal diseases, such as stroke and heart diseases. If you happen to have a high cholesterol level, try to lower it by consuming these nutritious vegetables.

These are nutritious vegetables that could lower your cholesterol level.

1. Tomato

Not only fighting cancer, tomato is proven to be effective in lowering cholesterol due to its lycopene, which is the type of antioxidant that give the red color to tomato.

A particular research states that consuming 25 mg lycopene could lower the level of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL), or also known as the bad cholesterol, by 10%.

2. Spinach

Almost all vegetables could lower the cholesterol level, but the best ones are those with dark green color, such as spinach.

Moreover, spinach is also considered effective to lower the risk of heart disease due to its lutein and carotenoid content. Lutein and carotenoid are essential in fighting the free radicals inside the body.

3. Garlic

Onions have been used as one of the cooking ingredients and medicines. A study states that consuming onions could lower the level of bad cholesterol.

4. Eggplant

Eggplant is not only effective in lowering the level of bad cholesterol, but it is also effective in maintaining heart health and lowering the blood sugar level.(*)
